The Chen 'forms' are choreographed sequences of movements that embody the principles of Tai Chi. They are a sophisticated learning tool which through correct practice allow us to develop all of the excellent benefits and attributes that Tai Chi can offer.
In our beginners classes we focus upon learning simple 'silk reeling' exercises and the 15 move short form. This short form takes about 20 classes to learn and gives students a good foundation in Chen Tai Chi and something concrete to practise at home. Students who complete this can then go on to learn the Laojia longform which has 74 moves. How long it takes to learn Laojia can vary greatly depending upon class attendance and how much students practise at home! Once the basic choreography of a form has been grasped we then focus upon refining the movements and developing the internal principles.
The videos below show Master Chen Xiao Wang performing a mixture of Laojia, Xinjia and Pao Chui (cannon fist) and demonstrating Fajing
